UNI.
A common reference for each object.
The Universum registry links included entries while preserving their provenance. It is neither an independent sky survey nor a replacement for scientific catalogues.
A stable reference
UNI- followed by 16 hexadecimal characters encodes a source namespace and original identifier. It is not derived from coordinates: moving an object or changing the date does not change its reference. Published identifiers must not be reassigned.
UNI-0001000000002DF7
One entry, several identifiers
Verified HIP/TYC and Messier/NGC/IC matches share one planetarium entry. Ambiguous matches remain separate. The UNI checkbox in the Catalogues tab controls all sources; individual source checkboxes refine the selection.
Find a UNI reference
Each source receives a UNI reference. Unambiguous official HIP/TYC matches reuse their existing UNI identifier; others use UNI-0008 followed by the 16 hexadecimal digits of the Gaia source_id. Existing references remain valid.
Examples: UNI-0001000000002DF7 (HIP 11767), UNI-000300000000001F (M31).
Sources and licences
Data and adaptations retain their respective licences. UNI supplies identifiers and relationships; it does not remove restrictions on source data.
